Collective Calling works with children and parents in Spain and Tanzania to help tackle the root causes of poverty, provide immediate relief to the effects of poverty, and act as a voice for the poor and the oppressed through advocacy.
Collective Calling provide emergency life-saving intervention for street children in Tanzania with a mission of helping to rescue, rehabilitate and reintegrate children back in to a loving family. In the last decade, statistics have now emerged that reveal good intentions have resulted in bad outcomes. Many street children in Africa were labelled “orphans” and placed in orphanages with no effort to trace their origin, when in fact 4 out of 5 children in orphanages have a surviving parent. With this in mind, we had no intention of building another orphanage. We have created a temporary rehabilitation centre which rescues street children from dangerous situations and provides them with food, shelter, medical care, trauma counselling and education, whilst families are being traced and root causes for children fleeing home are revealed. Research shows children thrive in a loving family environment, so we are on a mission to rehabilitate these children and their families, and unite them restored, and in a position of self-sustainability, with hope and practical tools for creating a new future.
Poverty is also present in the West, and more often than not, right on our doorstep, without us even knowing. Spain has been suffering economically with the highest unemployment rate in Europe, combined with the family benefits in Spain remaining the lowest in the EU. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the whole world and, as always, families who were already struggling before this pandemic, are now facing serious challenges with food and shelter. Collective Calling’s approach to economic empowerment helps to inspire, equip and transform those who have been identified to be within the “red zone” of critical challenges surrounding poverty. We provide practical help in the form of food assistance, and as a child focused organisation, we are introducing programs that will help keep the family unit together, with a holistic approach of emotional and mental well-being for parents and children, and practical ways to keep the family self-sufficient such as our “Inspiring Futures” Program.
